Dale Gent picked up his first win of the season in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship finale at Thruxton, mastering what were challenging conditions to triumph ahead of Allen Cooper and Daniel Fisher.
On what proved to be a captivating third and final contest at the Hampshire venue, the 2024 champion showed his class as he produced a sublime opening lap to rise from sixth to first within a handful of corners.
Getting the set-up of his machine absolutely spot on, Gent hit the front by the time they exited the Complex on lap one however he could not rest on his laurels as hot on his heels was fellow championship protagonist Allen Cooper.
Like Gent, Cooper made a flying start as he too made up five positions on the opening lap. Once clear of the pack though, the Brands Hatch race winner settled into a groove but he could only shadow Gent all the way to the chequered flag.
More than 20 seconds back from the top two was Fisher who enjoyed a superlative drive to claim his first podium finish of the season. Fisher had started the contest from pole and despite being passed by Gent and Cooper so quickly, he didn’t put a wheel wrong.
Another driver that revelled in the conditions was Michael Smith who delivered a season-best drive to fourth, while hot on his heels was James Goldstraw in fifth – capping off his first appearance of the year in style.
Eric Boulton had started on the front row but depleting grip saw him only able to salvage sixth. Behind him and completing the top ten was Simon Ward, reigning champion Ryan Hadfield, Tom Hutchins and Mark Willis.
Further down the order, Thruxton maestro Aaron Thompson tackled visibility issues to bank some solid point while Mark Chalmers had been one of the stars of the show as he went from the very back to fourth, before then having to pit due to an issue.
